The school was established in the year 1989. As the name indicates, the guiding spirit behind this institution is Sree Narayana Guru, whose sole aim was to lift the poor and the downtrodden and the untouchable to live as decent human beings. "enlightenment through education" was the catch word coined by him and its echo resounds all over the world.

Its aim is to mould an ideal society based on lndian culture and philosophy. lts main policy is to chalkout a plan for the implementation of the great ideals of Sree Narayana Guru, the prophet of social and cultural renaissance in Kerala.

The school is owned and managed by the Karthikappally Taluk Unit of Sree Narayana Samskarika Samithy which is a charitable organisation established in 1981. The organisation has been registered under Charitable Societies Act 1955 (Reg. No. 156/80). This state- wide organisation has its branches in all the Districts of Kerala.

The Karthikappally Taluk Unit of this samithy has been running an unaided English Medium L.P., Nursery School (S.N. Vidyapeedtom English Medium School) at Kayamkulam. By this time, the school has gained appreciable reputation from all quarters.

The long cherished ambition of the people of Kayamkulam to have a Secondary school following the C.B.S.E. Syllabus, was undertaken by the samithy and started the Sree Narayana Central School. The school aims at the all round development of the individual. It aims not only to help pupils achieve academic excellence but also to make them good individuals and good citizens. Opportunities are provided for the pupil's physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual growth. The age-old values of lndian culture, its insistence on the sanctity of human life, self discipline, self respect, love and consideration for others will be instilled into the pupil's mind along with the modern concept of liberalism, socialism, inclusivity and gender equalities of man. Absolute freedom will be given to the pupils to develop their intellect and spirit.
